Keep track of material thicknesses, rpm, feed rate, depth per pass… really.I would have cut the box out by hand instead of using the machine - it was a really long process.I usually cut out the tiles 2 at a time on a piece big enough for 4… repositioning once it was done was the problem. Layout is key - most of my material waste came from me not ensuring the correct zero point.I would have probably done stencils for the icons rather than cutting + filling with paint. It also is pretty much at the limit of what a regular 1/8" shank can cut I would have gone with thinner stuff (probably 1/2") had I known. It takes literally forever to cut out 4/4 purpleheart / hickory. But please contact me if you’re having trouble figuring it out. They’re not 100% straightforward - for example, you’ll have to apply the resource icon onto the tile base in the cut, calculate the appropriate depths for the city and road container box cuts, and when it comes to the ports… well, good luck. The graphics are here: catanfinal.zip (49.7 KB). I tried to design everything to have recognizable silhouettes with just the paint and the natural color of the wood. I designed all the graphics in Inkscape - the functional cuts were usually around 4-5 mm into the wood, and the decorative cuts were usually between 1-2 mm and then filled with acrylic paint, then sanded off to get a sharp cut for wood/paint.
